Corruption and the lack of transparency in public spending negatively impacts the competitiveness of Hungary. Meanwhile, the country has fallen to the 24-25-th place in the 2016 corruption index of the Transparency International, scoring the same as Romania and lagging behind most regional countries. K-Monitor is an anti-corruption grass root NGO based in Budapest, striving against corruption and promoting the transparency of public spending using IT tools. Among the most important projects of K-Monitor are a searchable library of online media articles on public spending, an open and searchable database of the asset declarations of MPs, and exploring the network of the Hungarian economic and political elite, see http://www.k-monitor.hu . The task of the Student is to contribute to the IT development work ongoing at K-Monitor, studying the database technologies, Big Data analytics tools, and the web development platform at K-Monitor, and contributing to the related scientific research efforts at the Department.
